Here we go again. I would like to try to interject a little fun into our memo today.

SOME FUN—A FEW BOOKS I HAVE ENJOYED

I have recently read a book that impressed me with its broad and practical applicability. I am not a highly political person and this book is not a political book. It is about economic incentives, which shape people’s behavior. It is fun and interesting because it describes every day situations for different groups of people; real estate brokers, game show contestants, school teachers, sumo wrestlers, the Ku Klux Klan, consumers of bagels in office . . .

INTEREST RATES

U.S. interest rates continue to rise and even though we are seeing a slight decrease in economic activity, the Fed is concerned about the continuing and growing use of home loans to finance a lifestyle that is beyond the means of many Americans. This will have a very deleterious effect on the economic growth environment in the U.S. as interest rates rise.
