SOVEREIGN WEALTH FUNDS ARE CHANGING THE INVESTMENT LANDSCAPE, AND MAY PUSH GOOD STOCKS AND COMMODITIES WHICH ARE IN DEMAND TO MUCH HIGHER LEVELS

What are sovereign wealth funds? They are the assets of sovereign countries that have been earned.  Instead of holding them in government bonds as they once did countries are investing part of the money in stocks and commodities on a global basis.

The Saturday, May 26 Financial Times devoted a large section to an issue I have mentioned several times; the 2.5 trillion dollars of sovereign wealth funds from China, Norway, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and many other countries [about 16 in all] that is to be invested globally.  In addition, there is probably twice that much money . . .

ALL IS NOT WELL IN IRAN

IRAN HAS LEAKED THE BEGINNING OF GASOLINE RATIONING AND A GASOLINE PRICE RISE OF 25% TO THE PRESS IN THE WEST

Informed sources, including the Stratfor Consulting Group, believe that the action was taken to undermine the popularity of President Ahmadinejad among the Iranian public.

CHANGE MAKES SOME PEOPLE UNCOMFORTABLE….IT MAKES OTHER PEOPLE RICH

Why do we see all of this negativity about the growth of India, China and many other emerging economies?

Why do we see the negativity about oil and so many other commodities?

We see it because change is hard for many people to accept.  Change is not comfortable, and change is often heralded by wrenching upheavals in people’s lives.

We are a bit iconoclastic, and we like to point out change.  Most people are more conforming in their outlook and they do not like to entertain too much deviation from the status quo.

BULLISH DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

GOVERNMENT FOCUSES ON BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE IN SECOND TIER CITIES

This past weekend there was a big article in the Financial Times on the development of “tier two” cities in India.

As the middle class in India booms due to huge employment opportunities in software, technology and medical careers, a huge educated elite is being created.  These Indians are demanding top quality western style goods and services, which historically have been available only in the major metropolitan centers or in top resort areas.
